Four killed, 2 injured after Tata Sumo plunges into gorge

RAMBAN, July 11: In yet another tragic accident on the dreaded roads of mountainous Ramban district, four persons were killed and two others were critically injured on late Friday evening when the vehicle they were onboard veered off the road and landed in a deep gorge.

As per sources the ill fated vehicle of Tata Sumo make bearing registration number JK14C-2038 was on its way to Senabathi from Ukhral with six persons onboard-all drivers by profession, and it fell into a 300 metre deep gorge near Madina Masjid, Senabathi.
Soon after the accident, locals of the area along with cops rushed to the spot and started rescue operation and shifted all the injured to PHC Ukhral.
Sources informed that one person had died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to hospital.
Two others had died while being shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and the remaining two were taken to GMC Anantnag in a critical condition.
When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Kulbir Singh said that immediately after the accident, a Police team including concerned SHO, SDPO and others reached on spot and shifted the injured to the hospital with the help of local volunteers.
“All the deceased and the injured persons were drivers who have parked their vehicles at Ukhral and were going there,” he informed adding that reasons for the accident were under investigation.
Police identified the three deceased persons as Taqeer Ahmed, 20, son of Gh Mohd Bhatt, resident of Gujaraha, Tehsil Pogal Paristan, district Ramban and he had died on the spot.
Other deceased persons were Abdul Latief, 40, son of Gulam Hussain, resident of Nowgam Bhangara, Tehsil Pogal Paristan, district Ramban; Mohd Rafiq (driver), 40, son of Ahemdu, resident of Gujraha, Tehsil Pogal Paristan, District Ramban and Ajaz Ahmed, 20, son of Nasir Ahmed, resident of Gujraha, Tehsil Pogal Paristan, District Ramban.
The injured were Yawar Ahmed, 25, son of Mushtaq Ahmed, resident of Gujraha, Tehsil Pogal Paristan, District Ramban and Shakeel Ahmed, 24, son of Ab Rashid, resident of Gujraha, Tehsil Pogal Paristan, District Ramban.
MoS PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh has expressed grief over the tragic accident.
On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “Just now spoke to DC #Ramban Mohammad Alyas after learning about the tragic road accident of a Sumo Vehicle enroute Ukhral-Senabathi. My sincere condolences for the 4 casualties; Tauqeer Ahmed, Abdul Latief, Mohd Rafiq and Ajaz Ahmed. The other two injured Yawer Ahmed and Shakeel Ahmed, have been shifted to GMC Hospital Anantnag and being provided all required medical assistance.”
Dr. Singh further wrote: “The Administration has been directed to offer all possible help whatever required, even through the MP’s personal resources.”
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has expressed shock over the tragic accident.
In a condolence message, Sinha said: “Saddened to learn about the loss of lives due to the tragic road accident in Ramban. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for a speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.”
