JAMMU, Jan 5: With the arrest of four individuals, police today claimed to have achieved a major breakthrough in an attempt to murder case registered at Police Station City on January 1st this year.
The case relates to a deadly assault in which one Shampi of Christian Colony was grievously hurt near his home, while another individual Nahid, also a resident of the same area, sustained injuries. The duo was attacked by another group over an old rivalry.
A police official said, following the incident, a case FIR number 1/2026 was registered at Police Station City under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 109 (Attempt to Murder), 111 (organized crime), 191(2) (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 4/25 of the Arms Act.
During investigation, he said, police established that the accused, acting with common intention, attacked the victims using illegal arms with intent to kill.
Accordingly, following credible inputs, police teams conducted raids at multiple locations and arrested Aftab alias Affu of Gujjar Nagar, Mohammad Rashid of Gujjar Nagar, Gill Christ of Christian Colony, and Dhruv Sharma of Lower Mast Garh, Pir Mitha, the police official said.
He said, the arrested individuals are reportedly involved in several previous criminal cases registered at different police stations in Jammu.
Meanwhile, one accused, Mohammad Danish of Gujjar Nagar, is absconding.
The police official said that raids are being conducted at possible hideouts to arrest him.
Efforts are also underway to recover the illegal arms and ammunition used in the crime, he said.
