UDHAMPUR, Mar 5: In two separate cases, Police arrested four drug peddlers in Majalta and Rehambal areas besides recovering heroin from them.
During naka checking, Police team of Police Station Majalta intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02DT-2552 coming from Mansar towards Battal. Two persons riding the motorcycle, identified themselves as Chanchal Kumar, son of Sudesh Kumar of Khoon, Tehsil Majalta and Rahul Mehra alias Rottu, son of Balbir Singh of Ramkot, District Kathua. During their personal search, 4.8 grams of heroin was recovered from them, following which, the duo was arrested.
In another success, a team of Police Station Rehambal, while conducting routine naka checking at Naka Point Phalata, NHW, intercepted a car (Ertiga) bearing Registration number JK01BA-9466 which was on its way from Jammu towards the Srinagar side. Two persons travelling in the car disclosed their identities as Burhan Majid, son of Abdul Majid Batt of Hanjigund Chadoora, Budgam and Arsalan Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmed Batt of Chadoora, Budgam. During their personal search, 11.27 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession.
Accordingly, both the accused were arrested on the spot and FIR under NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Rehambal.
Meanwhile, an absconding NDPS accused was arrested by Rehambal Police. The accused, identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Girdhari Lal, resident of Bishnah, Jammu, had been evading arrest for the last two and a half years.
On 12.10.2023, a Honda City bearing registration number DL14CD-3741 was intercepted by a police team of Police Station Rehambal near cut point Phalata, NHW for checking. On noticing the police party, person (rakesh Kumar) who was in the vehicle fled from the spot, leaving the vehicle abandoned on the road. During the search of the said vehicle 105.06 kg of poppy straw was recovered. In this regard, FIR No. 265/2023 under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Rehambal and investigation was set into motion.
Today, after sustained efforts and continuous tracking, the police team of Police Station Rehambal led by PSI Rhythan Sharma under the supervision of SHO Rehembal, Insp Purshotam Kumar, arrested the absconding accused Rakesh Kumar.
