JAMMU Apr 28: Four- day science programme entitled, `Fostering Scientific Temperament and Explaining Natural Phenomenon in so called miracles through inquiry based method’ began today at Government College for Women, Parade Jammu.
The College Principal, Prof Hemla Agarwal, inaugurated the programme in presence of Dr B K Tyagi, Head Vigyan Prasar Noida.
The programme is being organized by National Council for Urban & Rural Development Society, which is working in the field of education, S&T popularization and inculcating scientific temperament among the masses in general and children & youth in particular throughout the State.
This programme is catalyzed and supported by Rashtriya Vigyan Evam Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad (RVPSP) National Council for Science & Technology Communication Vigyan Prasar Noida, and Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. About 80 participants from different states of North India are participating in it.
Programme coordinator Dr Ashiq Hussain, said that primary focus of this programme is to discuss “miracles, myths and superstitions” which are now a days considered a great social problem among all sections of society.
B K Tyagi, Scientist E, Department of Science and Technology, in his introductory address, said that Vigyan Prasar is active in imparting scientific knowledge among all sections of society by organizing different science related activities and programmes. This programme is also one such programme which is being organized with an idea to provide scientific knowledge/facts lying behind miracles, myths and superstitions.
Prof VSS Sastry, one of the resource persons, in his address said that in the four days extravaganza various Scientists/ resource persons from Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, will be interacting with the participants and will discuss as well as perform some practical activities based on these so called miracles.
Prof Hemla Agarwal, in her presidential address, said that the present society is surrounded with so many myths and superstitions and thus such programmes will be of great help to overcome all these social evils.
