JAMMU, Aug 20: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case of cheating and fraud against four persons for duping a woman of Rs 30 lakh in a land deal in Janipur area.
A police official said the case was filed after a complaint was lodged by one Neena Kumari, wife of Mandeep Sharma, a resident of Dalhori in Rajouri, presently putting up at Machine Domana.
He said the complainant alleged that the accused, identified as Sheikh Fida Hussain, Manzoor Ahmed Sheikh and Parvez Ahmed Sheikh, all residents of Sidhra, along with one Puran Singh Chib of Machine Domana, conspired to cheat her by offering 37 marlas of land at Lower Thathar, Ward Number 63.
Quoting the complainant, the police official said Chib, who is known to her family, assured that the land was free from any encumbrances and introduced her to the other accused, making her believe they were its rightful owners.
Believing their claims, he said, Neena Kumari entered into an agreement with two of the accused for a sale deal worth Rs 1.03 crore.
“As part of the agreement, she paid Rs 30 lakh through three cheques. However, the accused allegedly failed to produce the required revenue documents or execute the sale deed in her favour,” said the police official, adding that later, she came to know that the accused were not the actual owners of the land and had hatched a conspiracy to defraud her.
Acting on the complaint, he said, Police Station Janipur has registered a case FIR number 133/2025 under sections 318(4), 335 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and started further investigation into the matter.
