SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Dr Harsh K. Gupta, former Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, today. He was accompanied by Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST).
The meeting discussed the strategies to build a disaster-resilient Jammu and Kashmir, with emphasis on preparedness and risk reduction. Discussion was also held on the ways to reduce the impacts of natural hazards through systematic preparedness, resilient infrastructure, and an informed citizenry. The Vice Chancellor, IUST briefed the Lieutenant Governor on IUST’s initiatives aimed at enhancing disaster awareness and capacity-building, in collaboration with the J&K Disaster Management Authority.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration, bringing together Government agencies, academic institutions, civil society, and local communities, to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s disaster management ecosystem.
