Former Sarpanch, relatives booked for assault

SAMBA, June 10: Police in Samba have registered a case against a former Sarpanch, his son, and brother for allegedly assaulting a young girl during a street dispute in Sadoh area.
As per sources, the issued stemmed from former Sarpanch of Panchayat Sadoh, Som Nath, objecting to cow dung cakes being kept on a public path and confronting the family responsible.
They said when a girl from the household told him that the elders were away and would remove them later, Som Nath allegedly lost his temper, and started abusing and assaulting the girl in connivance with his son Sachin and brother Gharjit, resulting in the girl falling unconscious.
Her clothes were reportedly torn during the scuffle, sources said.
They said at the time of the incident, only the girl and her brother were at home.
Sources further said the neighbours intervened after hearing the commotion, but the accused had fled by then.
Following the complaint, they said, police have registered an FIR under Sections 352, 351(2), 332(C), and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the former village head, his son, and brother.
According to them, all the accused are currently absconding.
