JAMMU, May 1: Former Mayor and six ex-Corporators of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today called on Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha and submitted a memorandum to him demanding bettering the functioning of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) whose performance is total dismal.
Expressing serious concern over dismal performance of civic body, since 2023 November after the term of Jammu Municipality was over, they sought immediate intervention of Lt Governor, in the matter.
The delegation was led by former Mayor, JMC and ex general secretary, All India Mayors Council, Rajinder Sharma. He was accompanied by councillors including Surjit Singh, Ashok Singh Manhas, Sucha Singh and Kapil Singh Chib all of BJP , Kamal Singh of Congress and Gourav Chopra of DPAP.
They said that 95,430 lights were installed before the completion of term of the Corporation in November 2023 and till date the project has not been completed. Besides, CCMS (Central Command and Management System) has been installed only in 28 out of 75 wards of JMC and street lights are almost defunct in all wards and no heed is being paid by the officials despite online complaints being made by the people.
Moreover, the CCMS installed at respective wards is yet to be established at JMC, Town Hall.
While demanding that EESL be made accountable, they said that the 40 electric employees of the Corporation be imparted training and made accountable and all officers including Joint Commissioners, DC and Secretary be also made accountable.
They further demanded that potable water through tankers be supplied to those who need it most. Besides, the digging of 26 tube wells under AMRUT be expedited. Expressing concern over dog menace in Jammu, they demanded 70 percent sterilisations be done in a single cycle and contract of NGOs be scrapped and veterinary surgeons of JMC be dedicated for sterilisation surgeries. As per ABC programme 70 percent surgeries are to be performed in single biannual dog cycle which means daily from 50 to 60 surgeries be conducted. But present rate of surgeries conducted by JMC is 10 to 14 per day, they added.
Apprehending that this way the project will never be completed they informed LG that this way the State exchequer will lose Rs three crore annually.
They further demanded that the dedicated help line be made functional for complaints about dogs as per PCA Act of 1960. The letter said that non productive animals are being fed at Rs 230 daily and animals at Goushalla are being fed at the rate of Rs 115 per animal. About 50 to 60 stray animals inventory is shown on daily basis to swindle public money, they added.
