Former JU VC Prof R R Sharma passes away

JAMMU, Aug 30: Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu and an eminent educationist, Prof R R Sharma passed away last night.
Prof Sharma remained Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu from December 1996 to November 2002. He is survived by his wife, Vijay Sharma and their two children.
Educated in the Soviet Union, Prof R R Sharma was a distinguished scholar, who served with great distinction as a Senior Professor at the Centre for Russian, Central Asian, and East European Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) from 1973 until his retirement.
He was later conferred the title of Professor Emeritus in recognition of his outstanding academic contributions and also served as Dean of the School of International Studies. His intellectual depth, scholarly rigor, and global perspective shaped generations of students and researchers, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in international studies.
In recognition of his lifelong dedication to education, he was honoured with the Gold Medal and Cash Award for Eminent Personalities of Jammu & Kashmir by the State Government in 2002 and 2006.
