RAMBAN, Sept 18: A forest guard was seriously injured after being attacked by a wild bear in Samapani village under Panchayat Sansar of Batote in Ramban district on Thursday morning.
The injured guard has been identified as Rashid Hazam, a DLP forest guard.
Officials said the incident took place when Hazam was on routine patrolling duty and was suddenly attacked by the bear.
He sustained serious injuries and was shifted to CHC Batote for treatment.
The attack has triggered panic among villagers of Samapani and adjoining areas, who have appealed to the Wildlife Department to capture the animal before it causes further harm.
Locals said wild animals often stray into residential areas, putting lives at risk, and urged authorities to strengthen safety measures.
Forest officials said a search and tranquilization operation will be launched to trace and capture the bear.
