Forces celebrate World Yoga Day with Asanas

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, June 21: On the occasion of World Yoga Day, Indian Army, Paramilitary Forces and Police units at different locations across Jammu and Kashmir organized events wherein several Yoga Asanas were performed.
Kashmiri NCC Cadets, both boys and girls, joined the Army in celebrating   International Yoga Day today.  The Srinagar based Chinar Corps conducted yoga in all parts of the Valley including in high altitude posts. The yoga was observed in many venues with the youth joining the Army at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, Govt Degree College Anantnag, Baramulla, Uri, Kupwara and Gulmarg. Over 6,000 Kashmiri NCC Cadets and large number of school children participated with zeal and enthusiasm.
In order to bring awareness among the masses about the healthy life style and benefits of Yoga, the Chinar Corps had observed 15 to 21 June as a Yoga week where in NCC Cadets from all the Colleges and Schools and the troops of Chinar Corps in the Valley practiced Yoga on a daily basis and finally observed toady as the International Yoga Day, thereby marking this event as a grand success.
All Battalions and institutions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) like RTC and Group Centres conducted special sessions of Yoga in their premises under supervision of senior officers.  Sham Chand, DIG CRPF GC Rambagh formally inaugurated 1st International Day of Yoga celebrations at GC Srinagar. In a span of 35 to 45 minutes, at least 21 Yoga postures were practiced in all CRPF units based in Valley.  Atul Karwal, IG CRPF Srinagar, wished all CRPF Jawans and officers good health while celebrating this festival of health and peace in the Valley.
Indian Army’s 14 Corps celebrated World Yoga Day at Siachen Glacier, Leh, Kargil and other forward locations along the borders. The event at Leh was attended by over 500 personnel, who included Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Jawans of the Leh Garrisson. At Siachen a Central Yoga function was organized at the Base Camp. Soldiers also performed Yoga at the forward posts on the Siachen Glacier. Apart from giving an impetus to physical fitness, the events were aimed to popularize Yoga and also to spread awareness on benefits of Yoga amongst the soldiers. Large number of soldiers showed interest in learning Yoga Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation.  The Yoga sessions at all locations were organized by trained instructors who explained and demonstrated the correct postures for various asanas while highlighting  their benefits.
Romeo Force Headquarters  and  its Rashtriya Rifles Battalions actively participated in the World Yoga Day  today. Yoga was organized at various locations in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch like Palma, Manjakote, Thanamandi, Topa, Basoni, Daraba, Surankote and Mendhar.  Around 3684 Army personnel including Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Jawans participated in the event. Troops were  preparing for the event for the last one week and  got motivated to continue with Yoga along with the other physical exercises done by them.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Yoga exercises were  performed by officers and CRPF men at CRPF Camp, J&K Zone HQrs, Bantalab, Jammu. Pankaj Kumar, IGP, J&K Zone HQ briefed the participants about the importance of Yoga in our daily life as it bestows health benefits and helps in inculcating self discipline which is very important for the force personnel leading stressful life due to their continuous deployment in countering various terrorists/ naxal/ internal security related duties.  Further he explained that yoga is extremely effective for increasing flexibility, lubrication of joints, ligaments and tendons, massaging of all organs of the body and for excellent toning of the muscles etc. Participants were advised to perform Yoga exercises daily to lead stress free life and remain physically & mentally fit. On this occasion,  Sandeep Gokel, DIG and other officers of J&K Zone were also present.
166 BN, CRPF observed International  Day of Yoga  at Unit Hqr New PCR,  Sidhra Jammu .    Shri Dinesh (Second –in-Command ) ,  N K Choudhary (Dy  Comdt) , other senior officers ,  Jawans of 166  Bn of CRPF  and local peoples of Sidhra participated in the programme. A lecture was also delivered by  Shri  Dinesh  regarding all round fitness, loss of weight, relief from stress, inner peace, improving of  immunity, better relationship and other importance / benefits  of Yoga in Human life  .
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the nine-day Yoga camp concluded at SPS Police Training School Kathua. The mega event was jointly organized by 1st Armed Sqn NCC and Police Training School Kathua. The workshop was also attended by 15 Instructors of Patanjali Yog Peeth who demonstrated various Asanas to the participants. The workshop was attended by the NCC Cadets numbering 1310 and the staff members of Police Training School Kathua. The Principal of SPS PTS Kathua,   Sanjeev Khajuria was the guest of honour of the event. He  motivated all the participants and also explained the benefits of Yoga. Vote of thanks was given by Lt  Col  Raj Mohan Singh, 1st Armed Sqn  NCC.
On the  International Yoga Day at Udhampur Garrison,  a Yoga demonstration and participation camp was held at Bikram Park, which was attended by a large number of serving personnel.  Under the guidence of instructors, all ranks participated with great interest and enthusiasm in various Yoga exercises and Asanas.
In the Yoga Day event, organized by CRPF at Channi Himmat, Speaker J&K Assembly & MLA Gandhi Nagar Kavinder Gupta along with others, performed Yoga Asanas under the guidence of instructors. Kavinder appealed participants that we should adopt Yoga daily for healthy lifestyle rather to participate only to celebrate international day.
More than 500 BSF personnel assembled at BSF stadium of Paloura camp to observe International Yoga Day under the supervision of Rakesh Kumar, IG BSF Jammu Frontier. All the BSF brave soldiers & their families practiced Yoga for more than one hour. All the officers, SOs and Jawans took pledge to maintain good and sound health.
