SRINAGAR, Jan 10: The Former Medical Faculty Forum (FMFF) today demanded that the Bone & Joint Hospital, Barzulla, be renamed after Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ashai to recognize his contributions.
In a statement issued here, FMFF of Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, SKIMS, Soura, SKIMS-MC&H, Bemina and Government Dental College (GDC), said that a formal process should be established for renaming institutions in J&K to honor pioneers, acknowledging their contributions.
“By dedicating institutions to individuals like Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ashai, the Government can create enduring monuments to excellence and compassion, fostering a culture of pride, dedication, and innovation in healthcare,” it said.
It further stated that the authorities should also engage with the medical fraternity, faculty forums, patient associations, and community leaders to identify other deserving individuals whose contributions to healthcare merit similar recognition.
Renaming hospitals, medical colleges, and nursing schools to honor pioneers and empathetic care providers is an act of profound significance, it said.
“We urge the authorities to give this proposal the respectful consideration it deserves, ensuring that the contributions of these luminaries are celebrated and remembered for generations to come,” FMFF said.
