FM channel for Basohli

Sir,
The decision of the Prime Minister Narendera Modi to launch 15 new FM channels for Jammu and Kashmir State is widely hailed by the people of the state in general and Kathua and Bhaderwah districts in particular which are going to get 3 FM channels in each. This act of the Prime Minister speaks about his emphasis and concern for these regions. The purpose of the scheme is aimed at providing the radio broadcast to the places which fall out of theTVnetwork and are situated on the peripheries of the state where the power supply a the great problem. So far as Kathua district is concerned majority of the population lives in the hilly and inaccessible areas where the television coverage is not available and people are deprived of the power supply till date. The majority of population in the remote areas of Basohli, Bani and Billawar tehsils of Kathua district use radio as the best available source of information and keep themselves glued to the set for news and other entertainment programs.
Moreover the radio sets are affordable as compared to the TV sets. There is only one low power TV transmitting station and one FM station at Kathua with a small range limited up to the plain areas of Kandi belt and the plain areas of Billawar tehsil only, whereas the Basohli and Bani areas are totally deprived of the FM broadcast from Kathua station. Basohli  and  Bani tehsils are unique in respect of the culture and language and need a means like radio station which can help keep the culture, folk songs and dances of the hilly ilk alive. It is pertinent to mention here that  programs in Gojri, Poonchi, Bhaderwahi are already being broadcast on the radio station Jammu and Kathua but there is no such program which  specially caters to the needs of Basohli and Bani areas. Basohli is an historical town and confluence of three states, three cultures and three languages, has unique customs and way of living which is veiled and hidden from the outside world. In order to develop, disseminate and preserve the culture of Basohli one FM station must be sanctioned for Basohli which will go a long way in meeting out justice to the remote and inaccessible tehsils of Kathua district and the motive they are sanctioned for.
Yours etc…..
