JAMMU, Sept 8: In view of the disruption of road connectivity due to heavy rains and floods, the Railways today started operating a Flood Special Train in the Jammu Division for the convenience of passengers and relief distribution.
The special service, running between Katra and Sangaldan was introduced to provide smooth and safe travel.
Train numbers 04685/04686 successfully operated on the first day, carrying over 1,500 passengers in both directions.
Passengers hailed the initiative and appreciated the efforts of senior railway and divisional officials, calling it a timely and positive step.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal said that the move has eased the travel of flood-affected people and would also serve as a crucial support system for relief distribution.
He informed that in coordination with the District Administration, the Railways will transport and distribute around 1,200 tonnes of relief material, including dry rations such as wheat and rice, under the Public Distribution System at stations along the route.
The first consignment of 4 tonnes of relief material will be dispatched on September 9, 2025, to stations along the Katra-Sangaldan route.
