SAMBA/RAJOURI, Nov 5: Police in Samba and Rajouri districts have foiled five bovine smuggling attempts by arresting as many individuals and rescuing 27 animals from their clutches.
Besides, five vehicles used in the illegal transportation of the animals have also been seized.
A police official said that during search of a truck (HP71-2533) near Nanke Chak by a team of Polie Post Supwal, seven animals loaded inside the vehicle without valid permission in a cruel manner were recovered.
Accordingly, he said, the bovine smuggler, identified as Kasim Ali of Bhadholi, Sillaghrat, District Chamba, Himachal Pradesh was arrested and booked in case FIR number 269/2025 under Section 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act registered at Police Station Samba.
In another operation, he said, a team of Police Station Samba intercepted a truck (HP52C-5325) near Mansar Morh.
On search of the vehicle, 7 animals were found loaded inside without valid permission to transport them, he said.
As such, he said, the bovine smuggler, identified as Sher Ali of Dhangra Saho, District Chamba (HP) was arrested and booked in case FIR number 270/2025 registered under Section 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act at Police Station Samba.
Meanwhile, while performing the vehicle checking duty near Bhargava College Samba, a team of Police Station Samba intercepted a vehicle (JK08E-5524) and found 7 animals loaded inside it without valid permission.
Accordingly, the bovine smuggler, identified as Ghulam Mohammad of Pashalla Bunjwah, District Kishtwar, was arrested and booked in case FIR number 271/2025 registered under Section 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act at Police Station Samba.
While all the three vehicles used in the commission of offences have been seized, police have initiated further investigations into the cases.
Meanwhile, the police foiled two separate bovine smuggling bids in Chingus area of Rajouri district by rescuing a total of six milch animals.
The police also nabbed two accused and seized as many vehicles used in the transportation of the animals.
Official sources said that during a Naka at Kallar, a police team from Police Post Chingus intercepted a load carrier/ vehicle bearing registration number JK11F-4493 which was found transporting two bovine animals without any valid permission. The animals were rescued and the vehicle was seized on the spot. The driver of the vehicle Khem Raj, son of Sain Das. Resident of Lamberi was arrested.
In this connection a case has been registered at Police Station Rajouri under FIR No. 537/2025 U/S 223 BNS & 11 PCA Act.
In another naka at Kalidav, Chingus police intercepted another load carrier/ vehicle bearing registration number JK11B-4726 which was found transporting four bovine animals without valid permission. The animals were rescued and the vehicle was seized. The driver of the vehicle- Zafar Hussain, son of Mohd Sharief, resident of Ninganar, Rajouri was arrested. A case has been registered at Police Station Rajouri under FIR No. 547/2025 U/S 223 BNS & 11 PCA Act.
