RAJOURI, Mar 8: Two incidents of fire were reported from Manjakote and Thannamandi area of district Rajouri during past 24 hoyrs.
A sudden forest fire took place in Gambhir area of Manjakote tehsil of Rajouri district on Sunday.
The local people informed the police about the forest fire, following which the police informed the FPF, Forest department, and Fire & Emergency Services. Without wasting time, the forest protection force and fire brigade personnel from Rajouri reached the scene along with fire tenders and brought the fire under control after 3-4 hours of intense effort.
It was reported that the fire-affected area was far from the road and the fire tenders could not play a significant role in extinguishing the fire. Assistant Director of Forest Protection Force, Masood Ahmed, stated that the cause of the fire is still unknown. He suspected that someone might have set the fire intentionally, in view of dry weather conditions. The fire has been brought under control, and the police have taken cognizance of the matter.
Meanwhile, another incident of fire was reported in Hasplote Pattian, Ward No. 5, Thanamandi, involving the residential property of Mohd Bashir, son of Nazir Hussain, a resident of the area.
The fire suddenly broke out at the house of Mohd Bashir, causing panic among the family members and local residents. Soon after the incident, locals rushed to the spot and made efforts to control the flames while informing the concerned authorities.
The fire was later brought under control with the assistance of locals. However, the incident caused damage to household property. No loss of life or serious injuries have been reported in the incident.
