KATHUA, Apr 11: As fire broke out in higher reaches of Bani and Basholi forest areas, green trees and wild life has come under direct threat.
Sources informed that some residential areas near woods are also under risk.
The fire incidents were reported from the forests of Dhaggar, Chadyar, Fatehpur Bani, Lowang Akharoo and Bani Khaddar areas of Basholi and Bani.
The cause of blaze is believed to be migratory people who leave the burning fire in forest areas after stay or some people who lit fire for their personal purpose. Though the volume of such fires is very low but if it comes in contact with dry grass, leaves and bushes in Devdar, Chir, Pine and Fir forests, outcome can be devastating.
The Forest Department has taken cognizance and deputed its men to douse the flames with the help of locals but the fire is spreading very fast.
DFO Basholi, Ashwani Kumar when contacted said that all these incidents have been brought under control today morning and the present one were minor fire incidents which lead to minor losses of surface vegetation.
He informed that a control room has also been setup to immediately depute personnel to douse fire if it breakouts in forest area.
