JAMMU, Jan 27: A devastating fire broke out at a pencil factory in the Tallab Tillo area here on Tuesday afternoon, completely gutting the industrial unit, officials said.
They said the fire erupted inside the factory premises around 4 PM, following which 4 to 5 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the flames.
After hectic efforts, teams of the Fire and Emergency Department, assisted by the police, managed to bring the fire under control around 7:30 PM, they said.
However, fire personnel and police, along with machinery including JCBs, remained stationed at the site till late night to ensure that the blaze had not spread to nearby residential structures.
Officials said no loss of life was reported in the incident.
“However, entire factory has been gutted in the fire,” a police officer said, adding that the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Police have taken up further investigation to ascertain how the fire erupted.
