Fire destroys several shanties in Kathua

JAMMU, Apr 27: A devastating fire engulfed several shanties in Kathua district late Saturday night, leaving numerous families homeless, officials said.
The incident occurred in Ward Number Twenty-One, where the makeshift structures, mostly sheltering migrant labourers, were reduced to ashes.
Authorities confirmed that at least a dozen families have been affected by the blaze.
Responding swiftly, the district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rakesh Minhas, moved into action to assist the victims.
Relief efforts were launched overnight, with officials providing essential supplies and necessary support to the displaced families.
Describing the situation as deeply tragic, officials noted that the district administration remains committed to helping the affected families rebuild their lives.
“It is a heartbreaking loss for these families. We are fully mobilized to ensure they receive all possible assistance during this difficult time,” an official added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further investigations are underway.
