JAMMU, June 11: A fire broke out inside the lobby area of the Legislative Assembly (LA) here today, causing significant damage to the property.
A police official said the blaze erupted at 9:34 am in the lobby of the old Assembly building, where several photographs of former Governors and Lieutenant Governors were displayed.
These photographs, along with sofas, chairs, and other infrastructure worth lakhs, were destroyed in the fire, he added.

According to the official, the Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot quickly and managed to bring the situation under control within minutes, assisted by the Assembly staff.
He said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but preliminary investigation suggests it might have been triggered by a short circuit.
Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported in the incident.
Police, however, have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandit, has sought a detailed report from the Assistant Director, Security, Legislative Assembly Secretariat, to determine the exact reasons behind the fire.
He said proper safety measures within the Assembly complex ensured the fire was brought under control before the arrival of fire tenders.
“With proper safety and security measures already in place, the fire was controlled by the Legislative Assembly staff within minutes even before the arrival of the extinguishers. However, a detailed report has been called from the Assistant Director of Security in the Legislative Assembly Secretariat to ascertain the exact cause of the fire,” Pandit told the Excelsior.
