LEH, May 29: In a major step to connect the armed forces with academic institutions, the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army and the University of Ladakh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote higher education and joint research.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Leh by Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Fire and Fury Corps, and Prof Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh. Senior officials from the Army and Union Territory Administration were also present on the occasion.
Officials said this collaboration aimed to build a deeper understanding of Ladakh’s strategic location, culture, and regional issues.
“It will help Army personnel gain academic insights into local challenges, which are important for national security,” they said.
“Over time, the MoU is expected to encourage research-based solutions to emerging security threats,” officials said.
“It will also help military officers develop skills in strategic management and national security,” they said.
A key part of the agreement, according to them, is the reservation of 10% supernumerary seats in all courses at the university for Indian Army personnel.
“This benefit will also be available to ex-servicemen, widows of soldiers (Veer Naris), their children, and dependents across the country,” officials said.
They said the partnership will help develop leadership and management skills in both Army personnel and university students, creating opportunities for joint learning and cooperation.
