Srinagar, May 2: Taking note of the “fake” Class 12 results that appeared on a website a day before the official announcement, the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) today said that it has registered an FIR in the matter.
Officials stated that the meeting to finalize the Class 12 results was held on April 29, and by the evening, a link purporting to show the results had begun circulating online.
“That result was fake, as the official results were declared on April 30 at 2 PM. We also issued a statement on social media clarifying that the circulating link was fake,” said Shehnaz Chowdhary, Joint Secretary, JKBOSE.
She emphasized that the results declared on April 30 were the official ones, and the earlier link was fraudulent. Action has since been initiated, she added.
“Whosoever is responsible for this has been proceeded against, and we have registered an FIR in this regard,” she said, noting that they currently have no knowledge of a possible data leak.
The website created confusion among students, with many alleging “discrepancies” in the results declared by the JKBOSE.
Several students and their parents expressed outrage, staging protests outside the JKBOSE office, demanding accountability.
“One of my friends checked the result on the allegedly fake website, and the marks were exactly the same as those later shown by JKBOSE; where is the privacy,” a student said.
Protesting parents also questioned how a “fake website” could have access to details that are supposed to be available only to board authorities.
“The details on the fake website exactly match the official results. Someone has to be held accountable,” a parent said.
The issue of breach of privacy was also raised by the J&K Students Association, which demanded an inquiry to ascertain the extent of the “data breach.”
“While we understand the technical vulnerabilities of technology but it’s imperative upon JKBOSE to publicly acknowledge about the breach of privacy of students…it exposes loopholes in their system and vulnerabilities of data of thousands of students,” it stated.
Class 10 students have also been protesting, alleging “discrepancies” in their results. Questions have been raised, particularly regarding many students being marked as ‘reappear’ in Physics.
However, the board has stated that it is open to addressing student concerns.
In response to the issues raised, JKBOSE has set up help desks to assist students in resolving their doubts.
“We have also issued a notification allowing students to obtain xerox copies of their answer sheets from May 5. If they have doubts, they can review their papers and opt for re-evaluation,” the Joint Secretary said.
