FIR against godman for claiming healing powers

LUCKNOW, June 14:  An FIR has been registered against a self-styled godman in a police station here for allegedly making dubious claims including having healing powers.

The FIR was registered yesterday under IPC 419, 420 (Fraud) and section 7 of the Drugs and Magical Remedies (Objectionable advertisements) Act at Gomtinagar police station against Brahmrishi Shri Kumarswami by Thanya Thakur, a Law student and her brother Aditya, a class 12th student, police said

The FIR alleges that Kumarswami made claims such as having more than 310 million followers including British royalty.

His other incredulous claims include the New York Senate declaring a day in his honour, a multi-step clinical test conducted on him at a government research lab in Bangalore, a BBC programme on his “powers” and even “saving the chair” of a US President, according to the FIR.

The brother-sister duo had earlier sent a legal notice to Kumarswami asking him to explain his situation but no reply came. Police are probing the matter.

Kumarswami runs an organisation known as Bhagwan Shri Lakshmi Narayan Dham, New Delhi.  Calls made to the godman’s office on the numbers listed on his web site to seek his reaction remained unanswered. (PTI)
