JAMMU, Jan 23: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today said that the Government is fully committed to ensure quality education in schools and improve education infrastructure. He said all ranks and files of the Education Department have been geared up and performance of students would be the benchmark for judging teachers.
“Education Department is facing challenges and shortage of staff has been hampering the education system particularly in rural and far-off belts of the state,” he added.
Mr. Tara Chand was addressing deputation of people from rural belts and educated unemployed youth.
Underscoring the need to fill up vacant posts, the Deputy Chief Minister said instructions have been issued to the department for referring the posts of lecturers to Public Service Commission for early selection so that staff requirements can be met, adding that need of the hour is to speed up the procedure of recruitment so that necessary staff can be posted in the schools.
He said besides expediting recruitment, necessary orders have also been passed for fast tracking the promotion process so as to ensure that all those who are eligible get their promotions well in time. Posts which fall vacant due to promotion of staff should also be referred to SSRB and the department should pursue early selection at all levels, he added.
Giving patient hearing to the deputation, Mr. Tara Chand said the Government is committed to enhance the stipend of RETs and called upon the concerned officers to prepare the required memo for presenting the case to cabinet for approval.
