JAMMU, Nov 24: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking enquiry by an independent agency into the functioning of Municipal Committee Katra especially with regard to collection of tax from pilgrims to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today directed Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department to file objections or remain present in person on next date of hearing.
After hearing Advocate Abhinav Sharma appearing for the PIL, DB observed, “despite various opportunities, respondents have not been able to file objections. The matter is lingering on for the last one and a half year”.
Upon this, AAG Seema Shekhar requested for further time to file objections and the request was considered by the DB which accorded two weeks time. “In case of further non-compliance, Commissioner-Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department shall remain present in person to answer the Court queries. A latest status report shall also be filed within two weeks”, the DB directed.
