UDHAMPUR, Nov 12: A young woman died after she fell from rooftop while lighting candles on the occasion of Diwali, here last night.
The deceased was identified as Mala Kumari, daughter of Ban Bihari Singh of village Sayal. She was a theatre and television artist and had been running a private school from her residence.
Reports said that Mala was trying to lighten the candles on the roof of her School-cum-residential building when she accidentally fell down. Neighbours immediately shifted her to District Hospital Udhampur where she succumbed to her injuries.
Body of the deceased was handed over to the family members for last rites after performing postmortem today.
A case in this regard has been registered in Police Station Udhampur.
Mala Kumari had also remained associated with social works and was among a known personality in Udhampur.
Meanwhile, a 13-year old boy received burn injuries while bursting crackers last night. The injured, identified as Gudu, son of Kali Dass of Ramnagar, was admitted to Ramnagar hospital.
