FCS&CA lodges 573 FIRs, recovers over Rs 80 lakh fine from violators

SRINAGAR, Aug 11: The Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) today said to have registered 573 FIRs and recovered a fine of over Rs 80 lakh since April last year so far.
The FCS&CA said that consequent upon the directions of Advisor to LG, FCS&CA has lodged a landmark 573 FIRs against the violators across the Kashmir valley while also recovering fines from the violators.
While giving details about the violators, Assistant Director Enforcement, FCS&CA, Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani said that 499 FIRs against butchers, poultry shops, bakery shops, fruit sellers and a fine of Rs 63,90,328 lakh against 18, 905 defaulters were collected during April 2020- March 2021, as well as 160 establishments, were sealed.
He said that the Department has strengthened its guard and has acted heavily against the violators after April 2021 too.
“An amount of further Rs 25,93,320, against 6311 defaulters during April 2021-July 2021 were collected. Besides 265 establishments were sealed as well as 74 FIRs were registered against the violation of the EC Act in Kashmir valley,” he said.
The officials said that during the inspections, the department formulated various teams across the valley to inspect various food establishments, mutton and chicken shops, fruit and vegetable, bakery shops besides various other establishments.
“The teams inspected various markets within their jurisdiction found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products, besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products,” officials said.
Besides, FCS&CA said, fines from the erring shopkeepers and rotten vegetables and other expired items were destroyed on the spot.
