Faulty repairs, broken roads plague Jammu city: Jayesh

JAMMU, Jan 4: Socio-political activist Jayesh Gupta today said that several roads in and around Jammu city continue to remain in a dilapidated condition, causing widespread inconvenience to commuters and raising serious questions about civic responsibility and governance.
Despite repeated assurances and substantial budgetary allocations for infrastructure development, damaged roads have not been properly restored, Jayesh said and strongly criticized the authorities for their failure to undertake timely and durable repairs.
Highlighting the growing risk to public safety, Gupta said the poor road conditions have made travel particularly hazardous for two-wheeler riders, pedestrians, elderly citizens, students, and patients heading to hospitals. He pointed out that sudden braking and frequent swerving to avoid potholes have led to an increase in minor accidents and several near-miss incidents.
Questioning the quality of recent repair works, he noted that several roads repaired only weeks ago have already begun to cave in, indicating the use of substandard materials and poor execution. He attributed the recurring damage to inadequate technical supervision and lack of accountability within executing agencies.
Calling roads a basic pillar of urban infrastructure, Jayesh demanded immediate and long-lasting repairs, strict quality checks, and transparent monitoring mechanisms, warning that continued neglect would deepen public hardship and erode citizens’ trust in governance.
