Fast Track Court awards 7 yrs RI in rape case

JAMMU, June 6: Presiding officer Fast Track Court Jammu, Sanjeev Gupta today awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 to Manzoor Ahmed, son of Nazir Ahmed of Nagrota, who was facing trial in a rape case.
After hearing APP GS Charak for the State whereas Advocate Rupak Ratta for the accused person, Fast Track Court observed, “the cases relating to crime against women have increased in recent time and the social impact of the crime particularly when it relates to offences against women cannot be lost sight of an per se it requires exemplary treatment”.
“Any liberal attitude by imposing meager sentences or taking too sympathetic view merely on account of economic condition of a person or other irrelevant considerations will prove counterproductive in long run”, the Presiding Officer said, adding “it is the duty of the court to impose appropriate punishment so as to respond to the society’s cry for justice against such criminals and public abhorrence of the crime needs a reflection through the court verdict in the measure of punishment”.
With these observations, Court awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 to Manzoor Ahmed.
