Abdullah told reporters at Anantnag that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sent a letter on Tuesday to the presidents of 42 political parties, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, urging them to press the Centre to introduce a bill for the restoration of Statehood to J&K during the ongoing Parliament session.
“I am going there myself tomorrow. A Congress leader has called all opposition leaders. I will raise this issue there and hope that, just as they have supported us in the past, they will continue to stand with us in the future as well.”
The NC chief also said that the Supreme Court is likely to hear the petition regarding the restoration of Statehood to J&K on Friday. “The Statehood case is being heard by the Supreme Court on August 8. So, let us wait and see what happens there,” he added.
When asked about the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) criticising the ruling party, Abdullah blamed the PDP for the region’s political setbacks. “They joined hands with the BJP. What will they tell us now? Unfortunately, they are fooling the people. Articles 370 and 35A would not have been abrogated had Mufti Mohammad Sayeed (former CM) accepted support from the National Conference and the Congress,” he said.
“We had offered them support without demanding any Ministries. But they brought the BJP to power here. They are responsible for what happened. God has drowned them before and will drown them again in the future,” he added.
