Farooq, Apni Party, others welcome ceasefire agreement

SRINAGAR, Feb 25: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) president and Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Dr Farooq Abdullah today welcomed the agreement between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan armies to observe ceasefire alongside LOC, IB, saying the measure will go a long way towards sustainable peace between the two neighboring countries.
The agreement between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan will go a long way in ushering long lasting peace alongside LOC, and IB, said NC president while welcoming the development. “NC has always been a strong votary of Indo-Pak peace. It is the people of Jammu and Kashmir that have been facing the brunt of escalating tensions alongside the borders. I hope the agreement is followed in letter and spirit. The development, I sincerely believe, will allow people living alongside LOC, IB to go about their normal lives with minimal disruption and risk,” he said.
CPI (M) senior leader and former MLA, Mohammad Yousf Taragami has welcomed the cease -fire agreement on LOC and IB between India and Pakistan. He said the ceasefire is a welcome step after long confrontation, hostilities and avoidable loss of human lives. He urged leadership of India and Pakistan to draw lesson from these hostilities and loss of human lives and initiate an credible process of dialogue to seek solutions for all the issues to restore durable peace in the region.
The moderate faction of the separatist Hurriyat Conference also welcomed the agreement between armies of India and Pakistan on ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, and said it will provide a huge relief to the “beleaguered” people.
“It is a move in the right direction, which will provide huge relief to the beleaguered people living under constant threat on the LoC and end the bloodshed there,” the Hurriyat faction led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said in a statement.
The Hurriyat said the governments of India and Pakistan need to address the core concern of Jammu and Kashmir in keeping with the aspirations of its people.
Senior vice president Jammu Kashmir People’s Confrence and former Minister, Abdul Gani Vakil also welcomed the agreement by India and Pakistan to observe strictly the ceasefire and to stop cross border firings.
In a statement, Vakil said that the ceasefire agreement should be followed by a comprehensive sustainable dialogue process.
