UDHAMPUR, Oct 3: Demanding adequate compensation, small farmers in several areas of Tikri, Seen Thakran, Kawa, Sangoor, Jib Thathi today protested against Agriculture Department for providing poor quality seed, which did not germinate.
These farmers of Udhampur Tehsil and adjoining villages said there was complete loss of crop in the land of about 300 farmers because of no germination of the seeds provided by the Agriculture Department and sown by them.
“The field staff of the Agriculture Department is completely responsible for huge losses to the farmers as the former did not give timely attention towards the failure of seed germination,” they alleged.
The aggrieved farmers, including Asha Nand, Lekh Raj, Raj Kumar, Gyan Chand, Jagdish Kumar, Sudesh Kumar Kala, Pritam Chand, Ganesh Dutt, Ishar Dass, Romesh Kumar, Mohit Khajuria and others explained that they are not having any other sources of income and hence they were demanding compensation from the Agriculture Department.
