JAMMU, Nov 28: Former Minister and senior leader of National Conference, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said that the farmers in J&K are feeling duped under PM Kisan Fasal Bhima Yojna as no compensation for damaged paddy crop due to untimely heavy rains, have been given to them as yet by the insurance companies and the Government.
“Not to talk of compensation even assessment of damaged crop has not been done. The colour of damaged rice crop has turned ‘black’ and there is no taker of that in the market. Even FCI has refused to take this ‘black rice’. Farmers are feeling helpless and disgusted. There is nobody to listen to their miseries from the Government side,” Sadhotra added.
Expressing serious concern over the fate of farmers, Sadhotra strongly condemned the Government and the insurance companies for their luke warm approach towards farmers. He said insurance companies are doing big joke with the farmers and it appears that Government instead of helping farmers is hell bent upon promoting the interests of insurance companies.
“It is very astonishing that not even a single farmer has been given insurance certificate of his insured crop and they do not know for how much amount their crops have been insured and what will be the mode of compensation in case of damage to their crop,” the senior leader alleged.
The former Minister said that in many cases farmers have asked the banking institutions not to get their crops insured as insurance companies have duped them. He said the sense of mistrust has housed the minds and hearts of the farmers.
Sadhotra demanded the Government to declare 100% damage to the paddy crop due to untimely heavy rain and adequately compensation be given to farmers otherwise level of trust deficit among the farmers for the Government will increase which can lead to their alienation.
