SRINAGAR, Oct 14: The families of two truckers injured in an attack by miscreants in Udhampur last week, today rejected financial assistance by Government and returned the cash relief along with air tickets to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed yesterday during his South Kashmir visit.
In a press conference held here, the fathers of two victims – Zahid Ahmad and Showkat Ahmad – accused the Government of insulting them by providing “few thousand” rupees in relief for their sons’ treatment along with air tickets and “creating hype”.
Ghulam Rasool, who is the father of Zahid Ahmad, told reporters here that he along with Ghulam Mohammad returned Rs 40, 000 and the tickets to Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed yesterday and claimed that the CM “didn’t even enquire why they are returning”.
On the occasion, the legislator Rasheed paid Rs one lakh each to the duo and announced that he will accompany them to New Delhi tomorrow and would stay there until the completion of victims’ treatment.
