Fallen tree disrupts traffic in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Apr 1: Traffic movement in the Rajbagh area near Hattrick was briefly disrupted today after authorities removed a fallen poplar tree that posed a safety risk, officials said.
The incident occurred on a key arterial road connecting vital installations, including Lal Ded Hospital, leading to diversions and congestion for over an hour.
The situation came to light early morning after on-duty personnel received information from the control room.
“On reaching the spot, we found the tree had fallen and could have led to accidents or loss of life,” an official said.
Authorities swiftly mobilised multiple agencies, including the Police Control Room (PCR), Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), to clear the obstruction.
Given the importance of the stretch, officials prioritised immediate restoration of traffic.
“This is a sensitive road with a major hospital at one end, so we ensured quick action,” the official added.
Fire and Emergency Services deployed an advance rescue tender, and teams carried out cutting and removal of the tree without any damage to property or casualties.
The road remained closed for about 30 minutes during the operation, after which traffic was gradually restored, according to the officials.
They said the preventive action was taken to avert any untoward incident and ensure public safety, adding that the situation was brought under control promptly.
