JAMMU, Jan 19: The Crime Branch Jammu has booked two cheats of Tripura and their unidentified associates for committing a fraud and duping a person from Chenani in Udhampur on the pretext of an award claimed to have been won by his mobile number.
Identity of the accused has been established as Bishu Chandra Dass and Ram Chandra Dass of Boxa Nagar, Sonampura in West Tripura.
The case was registered following a complaint by one Gulsher of Karla in Chenani, who alleged that he received a call on his mobile phone wherein the caller informed him that his mobile number has been nominated for the award of Rs 25 lakh for which had to deposit some amount in a given account of State Bank of India. After the said amount was deposited, the unidentified caller again asked the complainant to deposit some more amounts in SBI. The complainant deposited a total of Rs 1,40,000 in installments in the given account number before he came to know that he had been cheated by the unknown caller.
During investigation into the case, the mobile numbers were found to be international VOIP numbers while the SBI account numbers were traced to the accused Bishu Chandra Dass and Ram Chandra Dass who were later booked by the Crime Branch unders sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B/RPC.
