JAMMU, Dec 5: A five-day ICT based Faculty Development Programme (FDP), organized by the International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu, concluded today.
Organized in collaboration with the National Institute for Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh, focal theme of the FDP was ‘Communication Skills: Instructional Planning and Delivery’, in teaching-learning process. Objective of the FDP was to train the faculty members in various facets of instructional planning and delivery methods.
All the sessions during the five-day training programme were through interactive mode wherein the resource persons delivered lectures and tutorials through virtual setup and video-conferencing facility available at ICccR & HRM using Google Hangouts. The training programme was hosted at ETV Studios, Chandigarh. There were three other institutions namely Sunrise Group of Institutions, Jaipur; Manda Institute of Technology, Bikaner and Chandigarh University, Gharuan which participated in the FDP simultaneously being conducted through interactive ICT mode.
The programme was aimed at mentoring the faculty for the appropriate conduct of classroom teaching.
The ICT based programme covered a broad spectrum of modules including significance and process of class room communication, listening skills, oral communication, phonetics for speaking effectively/articulation and pronunciation, official writing, body language, presentation skills, non-verbal communication, interpersonal skills etc. The resource persons for the sessions, who spoke around the broad theme, were Dr M P Poonia, Director, NITTTR, Chandigarh; Dr P K Tulsi, Dean, Research and Development, and Head, Education and Education Management, NITTTR, Chandigarh; Dr Amandeep Kour, NITTTR; Prof P K Singla, Coordinator, NITTTR; Suditi Jindal, Founder Director, The Learning Curve Academy and Writer; Dr Archana R Singh, Senior Social Scientist, ICSSR and Associate Professor, Punjab University, Chandigarh; Dr S P Bedi, NITTTR and Meera Anand, Associate Facilitator, NITTTR, Chandigarh.
Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Founder Director, ICccR and HRM, while interacting with the participants, elucidated on ways for artful teaching and suggested that class room teaching must engage students all the time keeping their interest intact which is possible only through being original, knowkedgeable and innovative in teaching – learning process/pedagogy.
The interactive sessions focused on determining how teachers must generate enthusiasm and interest amongst students in the classroom with the appropriate communication skills.
The sessions, in a holistic manner, made the faculty members learn the use of intangibles and tangibles in proper mix for effective and systematic learning. This was for the first time that a Faculty Development Programme of this nature, was conducted in the University of Jammu..
The programme was attended by the 26 faculty members from University of Jammu across disciplines of Management, Law, Statistics, History and Computer Sciences. Dr Pallvi Arora, Assistant Professor, ICccR & HRM, was the Programme Coordinator.
