Exclusion from Pay Commission benefits: pensioners express resentment

JAMMU, June 21: J&K Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Society (JKPSCWS) will join the countrywide protest on June 23 to express resentment against the exclusion of retired employees from the benefits of 8th Pay Commission.
In a meeting JKPSCWS president, Mir Ghulam Rasool Batwini stated that the retired Government employees have stepped down from active services but they remain committed to fight for their legal rights.
“We are vigilant and ready to adopt all democratic and peaceful means to safeguard the rights of pensioners,” he maintained adding that pensioners across the country will stage a nationwide protest on June 23.
Batwini appealed PM Modi and J&K CM Omar Abdullah to safeguard the interests of pensioners and appoint Chairman and other members for 8th Pay Commission.
Enhancement of monthly pension from the age of 65 years, stoppage of recovery of commutation amount from the monthly pension after 10 years as per CAT directives, issuance of senior citizens card after 60 years of age and restoration of Old Pension Scheme were other demands raised by JKPSCWS.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Gh Mohiuddin, general secretary, D.N Sadhu, State secretary, Baldev Raj, Mohd Sultan Mir, Mohd Subhan Dar, Bashir Ahmad, Noor Mohd Sheikh, A.R Pandith, Syed Khursheed Ahmad, G.H Malik, G.M Shagoo, P.N Raina, A.R Hajam, Mohd Akram and others.
Meanwhile, All J&K Pensioners Federation has claimed that pensioners cannot be deprived of the benefits recommended by the Pay Commission.
“Most pensioners are over seventy years of age and are dependent on regular medication and healthcare. Any such decision to exclude pensioners from the benefits of 8th Pay Commission recommendations will not be accepted by the pensioners of the country,” Federation leaders stated in a meeting.
“If pensioners are deprived of Pay Commission benefits then it may lead to resentment among pensioners,” they maintained.
