Excise Deptt realizes Rs 1.3 lakh from defaulters

JAMMU, July 29: Tightening noose on Tax evaders, Excise and Commercial Taxes Department intercepted various vehicles and realized an amount of Rs 1,37, 748 from the defaulters.
According to the reports, staff of Excise and Commercial Taxes Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur today unearthed a unique method adopted by the tax evaders and recovered spare parts and electrical goods being clandestinely imported into the State in a school bus bearing registration No JK14-8706.
The vehicle was stopped and put to checking when it was carrying school children from Madhopur, Punjab to KV School, Basohli Morh. Toll and penal toll amount of Rs 3740 was imposed under J&K Levy Toll Act and the vehicle was handed over to the Commercial Taxes Department for similar action under J&K Vat Act.
Earlier, the active sleuths of Excise Department intercepted a vehicle registration No PB10ES-3121 carrying Desi Ghee and recovered penalty amounting to Rs 25, 300 from the defaulters.
Similarly, an amount of Rs 46, 508 from a vehicle carrying Machine parts was recovered. During intensified checking at the Minor Toll Posts, the department realized an amount of Rs 40, 700 from the driver of a vehicle bearing registration No JK21A-7971, when he tried to evade toll in Kote Punnu area.
In the same area, a vehicle carrying cement bags was intercepted when it tried to adopt illicit route and an amount of Rs 21, 500 was recovered from the driver of the vehicle.
