*Khajuria, Abid guide J&K to vital 1st innings lead

MUMBAI, Jan 23: J&K’s fast bowling trio of Umar Nazir Mir, Auqib Nabi and Yudhvir Singh Charak displayed extraordinary fast bowling skills against the mighty Mumbai batting lineup having the likes of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane, bundling the whole side out for paltry total of 120 runs in their first innings of the ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite Group-A match at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai today.
Riding on a superb batting show by Shubham Khajuria, Abid Mushtaq and Yawer Hassan, Jammu and Kashmir, in reply, were strongly placed at 174/7 at stumps on day-1 today, thus gaining a lead of 54 runs with 3 wickets in hand.
Shubham Khajuria showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up a brilliant half-century, scoring 53 runs off 75 balls, studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes, while Abid Mushtaq scored quick-fire 44 runs off 36 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Yawer Hassan scored patient 29 runs off 52 balls with 5 boundaries, while Paras Dogra (19*) and Abdul Samad (19) were the other contributors.
For Mumbai, Mohit Avasthi captured 3 wickets for Mumbai, while Shams Mulani took 2 wickets. Shardul Thakur and Shivam Dube claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Mumbai batters struggled to score runs against quality stuff produced by J&K’s fast bowlers and managed to score just 120 runs in 33.2 overs.
Shardul Thakur top scored with 51 runs off 57 balls studded with 5 fours and 2 sixes, while Tanush Kotian contributed 26 runs off 36 balls with 5 boundaries. Ajinkya Rahane (12), Shreyas Iyer (11), Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), Rohit Sharma (3) and Shivam Dube (0) fell cheaply.
For J&K, the fast bowling trio of Yudhvir Singh, Umar Nazir and Aaqib Nabi produced exceptional bowling stuff by hitting good areas and wobbling the ball both ways, besides purchasing bounce from the surface.
Yudhvir and Umar took 4 wickets each by conceding 31 and 41 runs in 8.2 and 11 overs respectively, while Auqib Nabi bagged 2 wickets by giving away 36 runs in his 13 overs.
