JAMMU, Jan 31 : Stressing on the need to make examination system more student friendly, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that the Government is steadfast on its commitment to provide quality education in every nook and corner of the State and a holistic approach to education is being promoted, which ensures that students do not get overburdened and stressed due to examinations.
He said necessary reforms would be initiated in the system to ensure that a pro-student approach to examination is encouraged and fear of examination is removed from the minds of those taking the exams.
He commented this while chairing a high level meeting of the J&K Board of School Education (BOSE).
Commissioner-Secretary, School Education F.A.Factoo, Chairman BOSE, Secretary and other senior officers participated in the meeting.
The meeting took a detailed review of activities of the board, financial status, examination procedures and reforms needed in the system.
Tara Chand said results is the yard stick to asses performance of the teachers and due recognition would be give to best performing teachers but at the same time strict action under law would be taken for those who under perform.
He directed the board authorities to prepare lists of Government schools according to the result percentage. Those schools which show poor performance first time the teachers would be given warning and schools which have preceding two term bad performance in such cases increment of teachers would be stalled, he added.
“Highest level monitoring would be done and schools where performance has been declining continuously for three terms, the concerned teachers would be declared dead wood and action be initiated under relevant clauses of CSR,” he emphasized.
“Student performance is the bench mark for judging schools and those institutions whose students show excellent results, the respective teachers would be suitable rewarded but for those where the performance is below the standard the concerned would be dealt with strong hands,” he observed.
Later, Tara Chand also took a round of different sections of the board and interacted with the staff members.
While visiting books store, he directed that distribution of books needs to be streamlined and it has be ensured that books reach to the students well in time so that the purpose of distribution is well met.
