SRINAGAR, Aug 31: Police today booked three persons, including an estranged ex-wife and her current husband, for planting a fake Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the house of her former husband in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla in an attempt to falsely implicate him.
A police spokesperson said Tangmarg Police Station received information about a suspected IED at the residence of Manzoor Ahmed Khan, son of Mohammad Ayoub Khan, a resident of Mahayan Ferozpora. Acting on the input, police, along with security agencies, launched a cordon-and-search operation. “During the search, a suspicious package was recovered near the main gate of the house. A bomb disposal squad was immediately called, and upon inspection, it was found to be a plastic box designed to resemble an IED. It was later confirmed to be a fake device, posing no explosive threat,” the spokesperson said.
Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 56/2025 was registered at Tangmarg Police Station under relevant sections of law, and an investigation was initiated.
During the probe, police identified Sajad Ahmed Ganie, son of Mohammad Qasim Ganie and resident of Nowgam Sumbal, as the prime suspect who planted the fake IED. “The accused initially went into hiding but was later apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed to planting the fake IED at the behest of Advocate Rahila Qadri, wife of Advocate Rayees Ahmed Bhat of Pandith Pora Tangmarg,” the spokesperson said.
Investigators found that Qadri, the estranged ex-wife of Manzoor Ahmed Khan, conspired with her current husband, Advocate Rayees Ahmed Bhat, to frame Khan in a fabricated explosives case.
“The investigation has established that due to a long-standing matrimonial feud, Advocate Rahila Qadri harbored deep resentment against her former husband and, along with her present spouse, orchestrated the conspiracy. The accused, Sajad Ganie, also deliberately provided false information to the police after planting the fake IED to implicate the house owner in a false recovery case,” the spokesperson added.
