Ex-services League discusses OROP issue

JAMMU, Aug 27: J&K Ex-services League today held an executive committee meeting to discuss the issue of One Rank One Pension (OROP) and the present security situation at the League Office.
President, Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, briefed the Committee about the latest position at Jantar Mantar relay hunger strike and the discussions held with the Army Chief and informed the members that they have not accepted the conditions to make 2011 as the base year for calculations and the implementation will be from April 1, 2014 as already accepted by the Government and the Prime Minister now being shifted to April 1, 2015.
He further informed the committee members that they have also insisted on 3% annual increase in the pensions. It was decided in the meeting that in case these conditions are not accepted, the J&K Ex-Servicemen will start Candle Light marches at night from September 1 which will be started at 7 pm from Brig Rajinder Singh Statue behind New Secretariat Jammu.
It was also decided that Ex-servicemen will hold candle Light protests in every village and major towns and cities of the State. In Jammu these will be held at Zorawar Singh Chowk and Bahu Plaza on September 2, at Kunjwani Chowk on September 3 and at Sainik Colony on September 4, at 7 pm.
A big rally will be held at Samba on September 12, which will also mark the celebrations of Ex-Servicemen Month during which Ex-Services League Flag Day will also be observed for donations and collections for the welfare of the Ex-servicemen, Veer Naries and their children.
The Ex-servicemen also showed deep concern about the present security scenario and felt while the soldiers are defending the borders of the Country their own families are not safe. It was resolved to request the Government to issue weapons to the Ex-servicemen Self Defence Committees in the villages. They said that in the meantime, licenses may be issued to all the Ex-Servicemen who apply and all pending cases be settled within one month.
