JAMMU, May 26: The monthly meeting of the Akhnoor Ex-Servicemen Association was held at Gurha Jagir Panchayat under the chairmanship of Navy Veteran Lakhbir Singh Sohal.
A statement said that a large number of ex-servicemen, Veer Naries, and widows took part in the gathering, with senior veteran Rameshwar Dutt attending the event as guest of the honour.
The meeting paid rich tribute to martyrs of Operation Sindoor, with a moment of silence observed in their memory.
Speakers stressed the importance of remembering the sacrifices of soldiers and highlighted the significant role ex-servicemen play in mentoring youth and supporting peace-building initiatives in society.
A major focus of the meeting was on demanding the implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP), Military Service Pay (MSP), and timely disbursement of disability pensions.
Participants raised strong concern over the poor condition of widow pensions and existing ECHS polyclinics.
They urged the Government to upgrade medical facilities to ensure better healthcare access for veterans.
Participants also discussed recent incidents of humiliation and manhandling of ex-servicemen in different parts of the country.
In response, a resolution was passed calling for the formation of an Ex-Servicemen Commission to address their grievances.
It was suggested that such a body would help improve communication between veterans and the Government while safeguarding their interests.
