Ex-Servicemen Association holds monthly meeting

AKHNOOR, Feb 25: To discuss the issues relating to welfare of Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris and widows, the monthly meeting of Akhnoor Ex-Servicemen Association was held here today.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Lakhbir Singh Sohal, Naval Veteran.
Various issues such as pension benefits, health care, employment and resettlement, Memorial and welfare schemes were discussed.
The Chairman also educated the Ex-Servicemen about the latest rule positions with regard to different schemes.
He informed the members about his discussions with Chief Minister and his Advisor Aslam Wani regarding follow up actions on our memorandum submitted.
The memorandum included construction of a Sainik Bhawan and a bypass road with construction of a bridge over river Chenab in outer of the Akhnoor south town joining Punu Chowk.
He further requested to the CM to waive off high rates of tax on canteen items including liquor in next budget like exemptions granted in other states.
Earlier, new members were inducted into the association, were welcomed by the Chairman.
The meeting was conducted by Sub Maj (Retd) Mani Ram Bhagat who narrated complete details with regard to activities/events undertaken during the last month.
On the occasion, two minutes silence was observed to pay homage to Capt Karamjeet Singh Bakshi, Nk Mukesh Singh, Sub Santosh Kumar and Nb Sub Sunil Kumar, who sacrificed their lives while safe guarding the nation recently on the LoC at Akhnoor Sector and Ladakh.
The Association extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Among others who attended the meeting included Sunita Sharma, Sub Rameshwar Dutt, Capt Santosh Kumar, Bodh Raj, Gurmukh Singh, Puran Chand, Om Parkash, Bhagwan Dass, Karan Singh, Puran Chand, Jugal Gupta, Kaka Ram, Banarsi Dass and Shanti Swaroop.
