JAMMU, Jan 20: Senior BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha member Shamsher Singh Manhas passed away after a prolonged illness at his residence here on Monday.
Manhas, 65, is survived by his wife, son and a daughter. He was sick for the past few months and breathed his last at his Toph Sherkhanian residence in Jammu, this afternoon.
According to his family members, the cremation will take place tomorrow at Toph Sherkhanian Cremation Ground at 1 pm.
Shamsher Singh Manhas initiated his journey as a social worker and served as a Pracharak of RSS in eighties. After joining politics, he served as the BJP Yuva Morcha president in 1997, J&K BJP President from 2009-2012 and Rajya Sabha Member from 2015 to 2021. He also served as the National Vice-President of BJP Kissan Morcha.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over Manhas’s death. “Saddened by the demise of veteran leader and former MP Rajya Sabha… He was always committed to the well-being of the people,” the LG said in a post on X.
Expressing deep sorrow over the demise of Shamsher Singh Manhas, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh stated that the passing of Manhas was a significant loss for the party and the region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has also expressed shock over sudden demise of Manhas and prayed God to give a place to the departed soul in his lotus feet. “I had personal relationship with him for many years and while working for the organization as a worker in J&K, I was the recipient of his guidance and affection,” he writes in a massage on X.
Leaders of various political parties and prominent individuals have also condoled the demise of Shamsher Singh Manhas.
