Ex MLA Dina Nath Bhagat passes away

JAMMU, Sept 8: Senior Congress leader and former MLA Chenani, Dina Nath Bhagat died early this morning after a brief illness.
He was 75 and breathed his last at a hospital in Ludhiana, where he was admitted a few days back.
Dina Nath Bhagat is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters. His last rites were performed at Devika in Udhampur later in the day.
Bhagat’s son, Naresh, an advocate, said his father was unwell for the past 10 days and breathed his last in a hospital in Ludhiana around 3.30 am. He was initially undergoing treatment at Government Medical College here for a lung infection and was later shifted to the hospital in Ludhiana for advanced treatment, he said.
Bhagat won the Chenani assembly seat on a BJP ticket in the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir elections. He resigned from the party in November 2020, accusing it of being “anti-Dalit”. After a brief stint with the National Panthers Party, he joined the Congress in January 2022.
Last rites of Dina Nath Bhagat were held at Devika in Udhampur later in the day. Besides large number of people, J&K Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra, Working President Raman Bhalla, G M Saroori, Mula Ram, Ved Mahajan, Anil Pachyala and some non-Congress leaders, including Pawan Khajuria, Som Raj and others attended the last rites.
