JAMMU, Sept 1: Ex-JMC Mayor, Ch. Manmohan Singh here today took the stock of damage caused by recent heavy rains in Ward number 42 at Nanak Nagar.
Accompanied Ashok Sharma, AEE JMC and S. Navjot Singh, JE; the Ex-Mayor toured Sectors 1, 3, 4 and 5 of Nanak Nagar and appealed to J&K LG, Manoj Sinha; Principal Secretary, Dheeraj Gupta and JMC Commissioner, Avny Lavasa to formulate a responsive action team to deal with tough times like the recent heavy rains.
He demanded survey of flood prone areas and finding the faulty system to correct it.
“Our people cannot afford such floods especially with Corona threat hovering above us. We are already facing challenging times, now the water from rains has pooled inside houses causing damage to electronic items, bedding and furniture,” Singh along with Mrs Vijay Choudhary, JMC Councillor of Ward no. 42 said requesting the authorities to access the damage and compensate the victims accordingly.
He also said that concerned authorities should take preventive measures like de-silting of drains to prevent flash floods triggered by heavy rains.
Manmohan Singh also said that Landoi Choi Nallah gets filled and the water starts overflowing.
He along with AEE and JE of JMC and their staff visited Kunj Vihar area of Sector number 4 in Nanak Nagar where the locals complained that water flows down and gets pooled in their area.
The concern engineers of JMC said that a deep drain was needed in the area to divert the flow of water.
Manmohan Singh assured the locals that with the help of Councillor Vijay Choudhary it will be done on priority and also requested the concern engineer to prepare the estimate for further processing.
There were also complaints about street lights.
Darshan Choudhary, Anil Gupta, Naginder Nagpal, Ravi Puri, Sham Anand, Bitta Mahajan, Roop Lal and many others were also present on the occasion.
