AKHNOOR, Sept 6:Former Deputy Chief Minister and working president of JKPCC, Tara Chand has demanded immediately release of relief in terms of cash and kind to the affected families of recent rains and floods in Jammu.
Speaking in a joint monthly meeting of the Block Congress Committee of Bhalwal Brahmana and Block Congress Committee Akhnoor held at Dhok Khalsa of Akhnoor Constituency today, Tara Chand said that Governments are meant to standby the poor public when they are in trouble but it seems that Government is in formality to access the loss. It is just an eyewash as assessment teams deputed by the Govt are visiting the areas falling on roads as reality lies that worst affected areas are still unapproachable as the roads leading to them are totally washed away.
He further demanded that free ration be immediately distributed among the affected families as they are now penniless and their crops are either destroyed or their agricultural fields are in floods.
The meeting focused on current political and social issues affecting the people of the region, especially in the wake of administrative negligence and growing public discontent.
During his address, Tara Chand highlighted the developmental work carried out during his tenure and recalled the significant relief and rehabilitation efforts he led during the pre-2014 floods. He said the people still remember the proactive support extended during those challenging times.
He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir are suffering due to rising inflation, lack of development, and apathy from the current Government. He strongly demanded that the Union Territory administration provide immediate relief and compensation to the affected families and ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
“The voice of the people must be heard, and their suffering must not be ignored any longer. The Congress party stands firmly with the people and will continue to raise their concerns on every platform,” Tara Chand said.
Prominent Congress leaders presented on the occasion included Capt Kali Dass (Block president), Pt Som Parkash, Rashpaul Singh, Suraj Singh, Anil Manhas (Block president), K K Bhagat, Bodh Raj Sharma, Puran Singh Manhas, Raj Kumar, Capt Mohan Lal and others.
