JAMMU, Jan 21: Estates employees today went on strike and held protest demonstration followed by day-long dharna at their Division office near Shakuntla Chowk (BC Road) here today.
The employees of the department under the banner of All J&K Estates Employees Coordination Committee assembled at the office complex here near Shakuntla Chowk in the morning and started protest demonstration. The union leaders Prem Singh Bawa and Yash Pal Sharma were leading. The work in the department was badly hit with the strike of the employees which will continue even tomorrow. The employees will struck work again and stage protest dharna at Manda office complex of the department tomorrow.
Several senior Trade Union leaders and members of EJAC, Subash Verma, Pardeep Sharma, Darshan Magotra, Sushil Sudan and Babu Hussain Malik also joined and addressed the gathering. They extended full support to the agitation.
Mr Bawa and Yash Pal while addressing the gathering alleged that higher authorities in the department have failed to honour their commitment. They said during recent meeting with Director and Dy Director, it was agreed upon to resolve pending issues but thereafter, the department slept over these demands. They said the strike has been launched now and it may turn indefinite.
They said the Coordination Committee is demanding reorganization of Estates Department, provision of two and half days extra salary, regularization of daily rated workers, release of pending arrears, time bound promotions, holding of DPC, implementation of SRO-43 and construction of building for housing the office of Dy Director Estates, Jammu.
Some executive members of Estate employees’ body, including Tilak Raj, Rashpal, Puran Chand, Rajinder Singh, Sagar Massih, Kuldip Raj, Rajesh Sharma and Shambu Singh were also present.
